Living Through History – The Rebirth Session Episode 128 (14th September 2007)

In one sense you could say this was a demo that was a parable for preparation – because though I had planned the mix out I don’t always practice every transition, as generally if something isn’t going to work according to the plan I can improvise.

Imagine my shock when I discovered how insanely well Spice Fire went with Hurricane! Wasn’t sure what to do with it at the time, as you can tell, but the seed of another mash-up was born 😉 I also managed to get the live mash of Suru and the XiJaro mash-up just right this time as well, another future project waiting to happen!

The title for this one comes a bit from left-field, but is a nice personal memory for me, as it’s still to this day the nicest thing I think anyone’s ever said about my DJing, when they described how listening to one of my shows made them “feel as if they were living through history.” The crazy thing is is that I used this very same phrase about 8 years earlier when trying to describe how being at Gatecrasher felt every week, knowing that every week would be talked about for years to come, and that the times we were living in were historic. As such I took the comment as an amazing compliment because one of the main reasons I DJ at all is to try and recapture that wonderful spirit of Crasher in 1999 so that it lives forever on, and given that I was still hurting from losing the place so recently it had reminded me of those crazy times again. At some point there’ll probably be a demo called This Outrageous Chaos as well, because this was another phrase I used a lot during the time that sums it up very well 🙂
